Announcing a 3-day tanto forging class Oct 10th-12th 2025. Students (limited to 2 per class) will be taken through the basic forging of a Japanese style tanto made from modern steels. This class is intended for the beginning student, looking to make one of their first pieces. Focus will be on basic forging and grinding techniques, heat-treating/metallurgy principles, foundation polishing, and basic habaki making. The students will leave with a finished tanto ready for final polish and mounting.
The class will be held in Aurora Ohio, at the Regimental Forge shop. Hotels and food are within a 10-15 minute drive of the shop (rural area). Cost is $1,500 per student. Water/drinks will be provided. Foam earplugs and 3M dust masks will be available. Highly recommend leather top shoes, leather gloves, and student’s preferred safety glasses (required).
