On the southern reaches of Africa amidst the deep lagoons and lush wetlands of Botswana, the Okavango Delta is an oasis of abundant wildlife of lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants, black and white rhinos, and untold concentrations of zebra, wildebeest, hippos, impala, elands, antelopes, monkeys, crocodiles, and hundreds more!

The Okavango, one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Africa and the 1,000th site on the UNESCO World Heritage List, formed where tectonic forces in the basin of the Kalahari and the Okavango River meet to create a wetland with no flow to any ocean or sea, spread over 15,000 square kilometers, drawing seasonal and permanent herds, prides, and flocks to the largest inland delta in the world, surrounded by the impressive Makgadikgadi Salt Pans of massive zebra migrations, the Savuti Plains of lion herds, the Tsodilo Hills of thousands of rock paintings from millennia of human settlements.
The Moremi Game Reserves, spread over large swaths of the Okavango, is one of the most diverse sprectrums of wildlife anywhere in Africa, supporting herds of buffalo, wildebeest and zebra, to the rare sitatunga and lechwe antelope, lion, cheetah and packs of wild dog in the open grasslands. The birdlife is prolific including 550 bird species. It also has a well-earned reputation for some of the most luxurious lodges in Africa!
Set in the heart of the dry savanna of northeastern Botswana, the Makgadikgadi Pan is the world’s largest network of salt pans stretching over 3900 square kilometres and formed on the bed of the ancient Makgadikgadi Lake that began evaporating ages ago.
Visiting Makgadikgadi is a unique salt desert experience: in the dry season, this vast expanse of sun-baked salt glistens in the light and when the rains come, the pan is home to a cornucopia of flamingos and other waterbirds, as well as one of Africa's biggest zebra populations, whose annual migration is a wonder to behold.
Set on the banks of the Thamalakane River, Maun is the launch point for many a safari by land and cruise, through wetlands and forest, on plains and savannah, making for a wildlife obsessed metropolis on the edges of the Okavango. Our river lodge, nestled among a grove of riverine trees on the banks of the Thamalakane, is an ideal start and finish to our tango in the Okavango!
