tAngerinecAt
Following a series of breathtaking performances at prestigious European festivals, headline shows across 10 countries, and a tour across Germany and Czechia alongside dark-electro pioneers Project Pitchfork, tAngerinecAt is set to return to the UK to celebrate the release of their new album, Grief.
Originating in Ukraine and residing in North Wales, tAngerinecAt embodies a rich tapestry of musical influences that intertwine West and East. The duo conveys a strong anti-war, anti-fascist, and anti-ecocide message, where the hauntingly intimate allure of dark jazz a cappella coexist with the fierce energy of hammering industrial electronic beats and poignant spoken word. It reflects the profound mastery of Ukrainian-born Zhenia Purpurovsky, a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, arranger, conductor, and actor, in partnership with the visionary sound designer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Chilton who hails from Britain. With a degree in folkloristics, Purpurovsky adeptly juggles rich cultural symbols, creating a tapestry of meaning.
'Grief' emerges as a masterfully crafted concoction of free-spirited, underground resistance brewed in a cauldron of haunting Twin Peaks-esque soundscapes and cathartic revelations, while shifting between languages. Even with its bleak undertones, this work evokes themes of hope, love, unity, and beauty, providing a counterpoint to escapism by embracing reality and navigating through despair to discover pathways to liberation.
Grief is love.

Special guest: José Macabra
José Rivas, aka José Macabra (BA Sound Arts, UAL / MA Fine Art, Kent University), is a Spanish-born, London-based sound artist, composer, and performer whose work spans noise, electroacoustic ritual, and experimental sound performance. Known for immersive, emotionally charged live sets, Macabra's sonic world explores altered states, queer resistance, and collective catharsis through voice, drone, distortion, and found sound.
José teaches Sound Arts and Music Production at London College of Communication (UAL) and has worked across various educational, curatorial, and therapeutic contexts. His work draws from industrial and noise music, ritualistic electronics, soundscape composition, and the darker edges of techno, blending performance art with sonic experimentation.
They have collaborated with Kimatica Studio, Ron Athey, Ernesto Tomasini, HR Giger, Sally Mann, Martin Delaney, Nicola Serra, and others, as well as organisations such as UCL, UAL, SAE Institute, Unite the Union, and HMPPS Belmarsh.
Their sound design and performances have featured at venues and festivals including the Barbican, Tate Modern, National Gallery X, BFI, Tate Liverpool, The Photographer's Gallery, Museum of Consciousness, and internationally in Berlin, Madrid, Athens, Barcelona, Brussels, Lisbon, and Milan.
Macabra's performance with Tangerinecat on 3rd October 2025 promises a visceral, hypnotic exploration of sonic unrest and an improvised ritual of voice, field recordings, noise, and memory aimed straight at the unconscious.
