How can writers go from being their own worst enemy to their own best cheerleader? It starts with reinventing the relationship with one’s inner critic. As a long-time Artist’s Way aficionado and instructor, I’ve been steeped in this work for over a decade, and I love helping others do the same.In this one-time workshop, attendees will identify negative self-talk messages that are stopping them from moving forward (and learn how to combat/rise above them). They will also a develop a better understanding of the roots and motivations of their inner critic, and will also identify creative champions and creative “monsters” (as Julia Cameron would call them) who shaped their critic along the way. And, of course, we’ll also discuss best practices on how to co-exist with one’s ever-present critic. Through interactive exercises, writing prompts, and lively group discussion, this workshop will walk writers through the process of redefining their relationship with the inner critic—and transform it into an advocate and ally!
About the Instructor:
Jen Jones Donatelli is a Cleveland-based writing/creativity instructor, author, and journalist. Through her business Creative Groove, she offers an array of classes and workshops on writing and The Artist's Way, and she has also taught for Loyola Marymount University, Ohio University, Cleveland State University, MediaBistro, Literary Cleveland, and StoryStudio Chicago. Jones Donatelli is currently a contributing editor for FreshWater Cleveland, Destination Cleveland, and Your Teen magazine, and her work has appeared in REDBOOK, Playboy, Robb Report, Thrillist, Budget Travel, GOOD, and many more. Jones Donatelli is also a trained life coach through the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI).
