"இந்நாவல் செம்பவாங்கில் 1960 களிலிருந்து 50 தொடர் ஆண்டுகள் கண்ட நிகழ்வுகளைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. சில முக்கிய வரலாற்றுச் சம்பவங்கள் இந்நாவலில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளன.

The book talks about what happened in Sembawang 50 years since 1960. Quite a few important historical incidents took place and the book focuses on that. The book is also translated in English.

திருமதி கமலாதேவி அரவிந்தன் சிங்கப்பூரின் முன்னணி எழுத்தாளர்களில் ஒருவர். கடந்த 43 ஆண்டுகளாகச் சிறுகதைகள், வானொலி, தொலைக்காட்சி, மேடை நாடகங்கள், கட்டுரைகள் எழுதும் எழுத்தாளர், நாடகாசிரியர், இயக்குநர், ஆய்வுக் கட்டுரையாளர். இருமொழி எழுத்தாளரான இவர் இதுவரை தமிழில் 3 சிறுகதைத் தொகுப்புகள், ஆங்கிலத்தில் ஒரு சிறுகதைத் தொகுப்பு, ஒரு நாடக ஆய்வு நூல், ஓர் இலக்கிய ஆய்வு நூல் ஆகியவற்றை வெளியிட்டுள்ளார். இவரது சிறுகதைத் தொகுப்பு மலாயாப் பல்கலைக் கழகத்தில் பாடநூலாக வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தமிழவேள் விருது உள்ளிட்ட பல விருதுகளையும் கரிகாற்சோழன் விருதையும் இவர் பெற்றுள்ளார். 50களில் செம்பவாங் வட்டாரம் பற்றிய வாழ்க்கையை ஆய்வுசெய்து இவர் எழுதிய 'செம்பவாங்' நாவல் ஆங்கிலத்திலும் தமிழிலும் வெளிவந்தது. ஆங்கிலத்தில் சிங்கப்பூரின் பல்கலைக்கழக இலக்கிய விருதுக்கு இறுதிச்சுற்றுக்கு தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டது. ஆங்கிலத்தில் 2021 இன் மிகச்சிறந்த சிங்கையின் வரலாற்று நூல்களில் ஒன்றாகவும் இலக்கிய ஆய்வாளர்களால் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டது. மலேசியப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் முதுநிலைப் பட்டதாரிகளுக்கு இலக்கிய நூலாகத் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது செம்பலாங் நாவல்.

Mrs. Kamaladevi Aravindhan is one of the frontline writers of Singapore. For the past 43 years she has written numerous short stories, radio, TV and stage plays and articles. She is a writer, playwright, director and researcher. Kamaladevi who writes both in Tamil and Malayalam which is her mother tongue has so far authored 3 short story collections, one short story collection in English, a research book on plays and another research book on literature. One of her short story collection has been included in the curriculum of University Malaya. She has won various awards in Singapore including Tamizhavel Award and overseas ones including the Karikalan Award. After conducting much research Kamaladevi wrote the novel 'Sembawang' depicting the lifestyle in the 1950s of the people in that district. It was published both in Tamil and English. The English version was short listed for the Singapore University Literary Award. The Sembawang novel has also been the Curriculum Literary book for post graduate students of University Malaya.
