About this Event
This two-hour cultural exchange brings together master potters and cultural workers from Tamba-Sasayama, Japan, and Indigenous New Mexico communities to share living traditions and explore new tools for sustaining ceramic heritage in the 21st century.
Open to the public, the workshop offers a rare opportunity for community members, artists, and cultural practitioners to:
- Experience the connections between Japanese tea culture and ceramic artistry
- Learn about Pueblo pottery’s heritage, painting techniques, and sustainable approaches to clay.
- Experiment with 3D scanning as a cultural preservation tool, exploring how emerging technologies can document and protect traditional crafts.
Through cross-cultural dialogue and hands-on learning, this exchange celebrates the enduring relationship between craft, culture, and innovation—reflecting Santa Fe’s role as a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts & Folk Art.
