Talk on Love and Loss with Stephanie Francis-Shanahan

To mark the opening of I Left Love Here Somewhere, Cora Sehgal Cuthbert and The Swiss Church are hosting a talk on love and loss with artist Stephanie Francis-Shanahan.

In their work, both Cora and Stephanie explore themes such as grief, joy and the extraordinary in the ordinary. For this talk, Stephanie will respond to Cora’s questions on love, loss and things in between with reference to music, books, and work which features in Cora’s show, I Left Love Here Somewhere.

I Left Love Here Somewhere is a mixed media installation which marks the end of Cora Sehgal's residency at The Swiss Church in London.

Drawing upon the artist's relationship with her Nan, the installation, made up of text, photography, sculpture and print, explores the ways in which the themes of family, immigration, spirituality, grief, isolation, mental health, care, love and loss intertwine.

When all seems to be lost, can love still be found?

Cora Sehgal Cuthbert is a London based multi disciplinary artist. Throughout her practice, she is constantly searching for, and presenting, the extraordinary in the ordinary. Influenced by artists, poets and philosophers like Mark Leckey, William Blake and Iris Murdoch, Cora’s work observes the intersections and connections between the personal, the cultural and a universal humanity/spirituality.

Stephanie Francis-Shanahan is a visual artist from London with Irish heritage. Her practice focuses on collective emotion and the cathartic nature of collage. She received a Space Studios artist award in 2021 and has self-published five artist books which have received press from The Face and i-D and are stocked in shops including MagCulture, Village and Donlon books. Stephanie is neurodivergent and is interested in the accessibility of the art world and the ways in which we can communicate most effectively. In December 2020, She completed an MA in Fashion Image from Central Saint Martins. She is currently a member of School of the Damned.
