Diop depicts the complexity of modern African society, inviting the viewer to take a critical look at the history of slavery, Western power structures, climate action and contemporary football culture.
His works include beautifully composed and skilfully staged portraits of significant figures in black history or imagined futures, in which he often ‘casts’ himself as the protagonist.
In a conversation with Moussa Mchangama, well-known Danish author and adviser on diversity an sustainability matters, Diop will delve further into his artistic practice and unfold the themes in the exhibition before it ends on the 19th of january.
The talk will take place within the exhibition itself and only a small number of seats are available.

More about Omar Victor Diop
Regarded as one of the most important Senegalese photographers of his generation, Omar Victor Diop was born in Dakar in 1980 and was brought up there. He now divides his time between his birthplace and Paris.
From a very early age, Diop cultivated his vivid imagination as much through photography as through literature and history, leading him to hone his talent in several art forms, from collage and creative writing to fashion and textile design. His influences include the major African portrait artists Mama Casset, Seydou Keïta and Malick Sidibé, the French creator Jean-Paul Goude, as well as a number of Flemish and Spanish painters of the Renaissance.

I have tried to fit in, have constantly changed shape, so I did not come to blows with a world that’s arranged in boxes. But that’s over now, it’s not enough to fit in. Now it’s time to belong, to create something new: a heartland, connected by values that let us be what we were born to be – people, wonderfully complex people.
This is the opening of Moussa Mchangama’s (b. 1987) book Texts About Home (2024) (translatede by Kunsten from danish).
Mchangama is a significant figure in the Danish social debate. As a co-founder of, and senior consultant in the consulting company In Futurum, and as an activist and author, he casts a spotlight on identity and belonging, and works actively to create inclusion, and social and climatic justice. In Texts About Home, he reflects on his own origins with a mother in Kirke Hyllinge and a father in the Comoros, which finally and gradually gained independence from colonial France in the latter half of the 20th century.
