Yung Sau-mui, Programme Director of Print Art Contemporary, has focused on the research of Hong Kong printing art for many years. Her book, 香港字二百年:從世一、大白象至世界文化遺產之路 (Two Centuries of Hong Kong Type: From Best in the World to World Cultural Heritage), profoundly reveals the rich history of "Hong Kong type," from the elegant movable type of the 19th century to its current status as a cultural heritage. Yung will share the journey behind it, exploring how this legendary printing art has transcended East and West and influenced the development of Chinese media.
*This event is conducted bilingually in Cantonese and English.
About the Speaker:
Yung Sau-mui
Yung Sau-mui’s primary research interest is the development of Hong Kong Print Art, particularly the development of lithography and Chinese movable type in modern China. In 2019, she started researching the Ming type point 4, cast by the Hong Kong London Missionary Society Printing Press (Ying Wa College) in the mid-19th century. The type was referred to as “Hong Kong type” by contemporaries in historical publications.
