100 years ago, Discovery sailed to the Southern Oceans - her first voyage as a Royal Research Ship - to undertake scientific research on whale populations. The on-board scientists were tasked to observe the whales and document their breeding habits and their migration patterns. More generally, they conducted a study on the Southern Ocean ecosystem.
The findings of the Discovery Investigations was critical in our current understanding of whales, and set the benchmark for work being undertaken on the RRS Discovery (2012) today.
Find out more about the pioneering second voyage of Discovery and more at this talk, inspired by our latest exhibition at Discovery Point, 100 Years of RRS Discovery, created in partnership with the National Oceanography Centre.
Your ticket to the talk also includes access to the 100 Years of RRS Discovery exhibition, alongside an Unlimited Pass to Discovery Point & RRS Discovery; giving unlimited return visits for a whole year!
Book today to join us for this illustrated talk by our Learning Curator.
