About this Event

Craft – Somerset Portraits and Voices

Kate Lynch is a Somerset artist who made her name celebrating local farming traditions in paintings and drawings, accompanied by stories she collects from the people she meets. Join Kate to hear more about her latest project to document the people practising old crafts and trades in Somerset; some of which are very rare. Kate has spent time with 30 traditional craftspeople in all. Travel with her to meet the only remaining sieve and riddlemaker in the country and a papermaker working a mill powered by a waterwheel. Visit a bell rope maker and one of the only companies weaving horsehair in the world.

An exhibition of Kate’s work, ‘Craft – Somerset Portraits and Voices’, is on display at the Museum 26 March to 5 June. There will be an opportunity to view the exhibition. The exhibition is accompanied by the launch of a new book by the same name.
