About this Event
Ken Scallys says, “The importance of Wigan was due to technologies interacting; mining, ironworking, the canals, and steam power. This would pave the way for the first locomotives to be built at Haigh Foundry. The emergence of Wigan Coal and Iron brought steel making, and advances in mining technology. Wigan became a technological hub.”
