Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience an international touring ensemble from India accompanying the dance of Austin Arts Hall of Famer, Anuradha Naimpally and her daughter, Purna Bajekal. This performance of Bharata Natyam classical dance of India will include engaging demonstration, storytelling from mythology, traditional dances, exciting rhythms, unique musical instruments, and much more. Bharata Natyam is an ancient form of classical dance that reflects the cultural aesthetic of southern India.
Naimpally, founder and artistic director of Austin Dance India is a popular performer and educator and recipient of numerous awards worldwide. She will be accompanied by Purna Bajekal, an accomplished dancer, and the touring musical ensemble she has worked with for over a decade including K. Sudhaman on mridangam, Rajesh Raveendran on vocals, Veeramani on violin, and Patanjali on flute. On nattuvangam (reciting syllables) is Austin Dance India dancer, Soumya Ashok.
