About this Event
Join us on Thursday, December 4th, at 6:00 PM PST for a special evening at Leica Store San Francisco!
We're delighted to host San Francisco–based photographer Joshua Amirthasingh as we celebrate the release of his new photobook, Tales from the City (Nazraeli Press, 2025). This highly anticipated monograph continues Amirthasingh's exploration of San Francisco through a cinematic and deeply personal lens, capturing the city's golden light, shifting fog, and the quiet moments that unfold within its urban rhythms.
Blending nostalgia with a love of cinematic storytelling, Tales from the City transforms San Francisco into both setting and character, inviting viewers into dreamlike narratives where atmosphere and memory intertwine. Through images that balance stillness with story, Amirthasingh offers an intimate portrait of a city that is both familiar and unexpected.
The evening will include a presentation by Joshua Amirthasingh, where he will share insights into his creative process and the inspirations behind Tales from the City. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase and have the book signed, engage in a Q&A with the artist, and connect over his atmospheric approach to image-making.
Don't miss this chance to experience San Francisco through Amirthasingh's lens. We look forward to welcoming you!
* RSVP is required, seating will be available on a first come first serve basis. Conversation will begin at 6:30 PM, and will be followed a book signing with Joshua Amirthasingh.

(b. India) is a San Francisco–based photographer whose work explores nostalgia, cinematic atmosphere, and the quiet poetry of everyday life. Raised in India, his early memories of light, place, and color continue to shape his visual sensibility. Since relocating to San Francisco in 2017, Amirthasingh has developed a body of work that reflects the city’s unique moods, particularly its golden light and shifting fog, which often become central subjects in his images.
Working primarily with analog film, Amirthasingh approaches photography as a practice of observation and intention, slowing down to discover stillness within the urban landscape. His influences span from the compositional rigor of Edward Hopper to the immersive narratives of cinema.
His first monograph, 018, was published in 2022 by Setanta Books as part of their bi-monthly series. His second book, Tales from the City (Nazraeli Press, 2025), continues his exploration of San Francisco through a personal and atmospheric lens.
Amirthasingh’s photographs have been exhibited internationally and are held in private collections.
