About this Event

The development of fundamental gross and fine motor skills are important as they form the basis for more complex skills to enable children’s participation in classroom activities such as holding and using a pen/pencil to write as well as using their hands to manipulate other tools and materials.

This workshop will explore:

  • The underlying sensory motor components required for effective fine motor control
  • The use of observation in identifying areas for support
  • Practical strategies for support
  • Low cost no cost universal and targeted activities

This hands on CPD event will make particular links relating to literacy:

  • Letter formation and production
  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Oracy

It will also consider how the above aspects can be supported through PE and physical activity.

Trainer Biography – Sharon Drew PhD, MA (SEN), DipRCOT, DipSpLD (AMBDA), PGCE

Dr Sharon Drew has over 30 years of experience of working with children, young people and adults with Special Educational Needs. Although her professional background is in children’s Occupational Therapy, Sharon works independently as an educational consultant, trainer and author with a special interest in children with Developmental Co-ordination Disorders (DCD) and physical skills development in young children. Sharon has written and published a number of books and resources for teachers and parents such as Take Ten, Target Ladders, Fidget Busters Brain Breaks and Energisers, Movers and Creators and Can’t Play Won’t Play.
