TAIKODORI is the melding of TAIKO, Japanese drumming, with ODORI, meaning traditional Japanese dance. While both artistic disciplines migrated to North America through the west coast, Southern Arizona has long been a cultural epicenter for these art forms, with some groups practicing and performing for more than 40 years. Today we celebrate the strength and beauty of TAIKODORI by highlighting the work of artists from Tucson and Phoenix. All of whom are performing to support the North American Taiko Conference (NATC) which will be hosted in Phoenix next year for the first time. Hear the movement, see the sound, experience TAIKODORI.This performance would not be possible without the generosity of the groups that formed the Southern Arizona Taiko Showcase, which was once an annual mainstay of the Old Pueblo (that's Tucson's nickname).
There will be a silent auction of donated items curated for TAIKODORI patrons. These proceeds will also benefit NATC 2025 in Phoenix.
