Taiko Thunder: The Art of Japanese Drumming

Thanks to the Indiana Arts Commission & Arts Midwest, Southern Indiana Taiko is proud to bring the ancient art of Japanese drumming to Columbus, IN! This event will showcase a dynamic display of full-body drumming based in Japanese tradition leaving you spellbound and speechless!
Not only will you witness the skills of our own Southern Indiana Taiko group, you'll be amazed by our special guest performers who have traveled the world. Trust us... It's going to be a truly unforgettable experience!

Who are these "special guests"???

Eddie Yates of Wadaiko Gouken who trained and performed with Aska Gumi in Nara Japan is just one of the two world class Taiko artists you'll see. (For those that aren't familiar with Taiko... Aska Gumi is one of the top Japanese drum troupes in the world!) Eddie is the only westerner to be accepted to train and perform with them. He has over 25 years of both performing and teaching experience, and now lives in his hometown of Cincinnati.

Mark H Rooney is known as the world’s most dangerous half-Japanese/half-Scottish solo improvisational taiko artist who studies, performs, and teaches taiko. Mark combines this traditional foundation with a modern sensibility to create performances and classes that emphasize connection, reaction, and interaction. dynamic form of full-body drumming based in Japanese tradition.
