Tsukasa Taiko celebrates the 18th anniversary of the Taiko Legacy concert returning to live, in-person presentation at the Edlis Neeson Theater at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. This year’s special program features the youth and adult community members alongside National Gintenkai Project performers and Chicago’s creative musicians – Hamid Drake, Michael Zerang, and more!
The resonating thunder of taiko drums, the precision of traditional Japanese dance and the delicately emotive sound of the Shamisen share the stage when the multigenerational Tsukasa Taiko performs a fascinating and highly entertaining mix of original compositions and arrangements in a broad range of musical styles from ozashiki (geisha chamber music) to minyo (folk music) to ohayashi (classical/folk/theater music) and matsuri taiko (festival taiko music).
Taiko Legacy and Reduction are programs of and is supported in part by The Illinois Arts Council Agency, The MacArthur Funds for Culture, Equity, and the Arts at the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, the Alphawood Foundation, JCCC Foundation, Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, The City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), The Joyce Foundation, and National Endowment for the Arts.
