TAIJI FENCING TOURNAMENTSaturday, May 24th 2025 @ Noon

We invite the Taiji Jian & Kung Fu Sword communities to come out to our first (of 3) qualifiers tournaments for the 2026 Championship event at the beginning of next year. This is an open, NO ELIMINATION tournament. This means that whether you win or lose, you get to continue participating and fencing!
Taiji Fencing is a low impact combat sport that focuses on slow controlled movements to score cuts against an opponent while using wooden straight swords. Cost begins when the swords make contact, and end when a successful cut is landed, in a point-sparrig fashion. The honor system is required, and we do not tolerate reckless swinging of swords like bats, or intentional malice.
FULL DETAILS:
• Divisions: Single Open Division. Everyone is starting with a record of 0:0
• Registration: $50 ($40 if you register before May)
• Spectators: $25/person (limited to 25 seats)
• 1st Place Awards: $50, Finals Sword, Trophy, & free entry to the championships & free entry to the Championship
• 2nd Place Awards: $25, Finals Sword, Trophy, & free entry to the next qualifiers tournament
• 3rd Place Awards: Trophy & Free entry to the next qualifiers tournament
• Swords: Matching wooden swords will be provided.
• Required Safety Gear: Mouthpiece, Eye Protection, & Footwear
• Recommend Safety Gear: Thin Gloves, long sleeves, & cup recommend
• Training Experience: As a safety precaution, and to help the event move smoothly, you must attend the morning fencing seminar if this is your first time taiji fencing with us.
• Who Is Invited: All martial artists interested in competitive sword fighting. Focusing on Taiji & Kung Fu sword styles.
• Match Rules: Time limits on each match, two-point lead required, weighted 1st cut.
• Cornerperson: Please bring 1 cornerperson for safety, first aide, & coordinating; or another competitor or volunteer may be assigned to you. Cornerpersons may be asked to assist other competitors.
• Instructors: Free attendance with student competitor. Instructors may be asked to be supporting judges.

Fri @ 7PM - Optional Taiji Fencing Workshop (for beginners)
SAT @ 10AM - Competitor Orientation & Sign-ins (10:30 meeting)
SAT @ NOON - Tournament Starts
SUN @ 10AM - Optional Referee Certification Course ($100/2yrs)
This is our first year back in action since the pandemic, and we are excited to kick things off with some new events! Be part of the future of Taiji fencing!
