Tai Chi Push Hands Seminar Series #7: Apparently Closed and Fan Through Back Techniques and Counters in Tai Chi Push Hands – Can be used to counter one another and are important parts of a good push hands skill set. Fan Through Back uses seizing and lifting the elbow to create an opening for either a strike or a push. Apparently Closed is a great counter to any technique that opens with an elbow seizing technique. Apparently Closed can also be used to change directions and sides in push hands dual hand pushing and as an opening to other pushes or strikes. In this seminar you will learn:o Learn how to use Apparently Closed as a brilliant defense to having your elbow seized by the opponent. If the opponent controls your elbow, they can easily strike you with their other hand.
o Learn how to use the “Fan Through Back” technique from the Tai Chi Form as a strike that uses an elbow grab to create an opening.
o Learn how to use Apparently Closed to counter Fan Through Back.
o Learn how to use Apparently Closed to reverse the direction and sides of the classic push hands dual pushing position during the Ward Off, Roll Back, Press, Push Sequence or just the simpler dual hands pushing circle.
o Practice using these techniques in push hands play with different partners.
