About this Event
Based on ancient Chinese Taoist philosophy, and originating as a martial art, tai chi is designed to follow the universal principles of Yin and Yang, aiming for equilibrium within the practitioner (Yin) and the surrounding environment (Yang). Daily engagement in this art promotes the enhancement of chi or life force, health, fitness, and longevity, while instilling a sense of well-being.
Master Peter Asco will lead a free tai chi lesson and basic training in qigong in the Davis Courtyard. No registration or experience necessary.
Master Peter Asco has been introducing UCLA students, staff, and faculty to the self-healing and empowering practices of tai chi & qigong since 1999. He is the recipient of the UCLA 2002 Instructor of the Year, 2008 FitWell Impact, and 2017 Outstanding Instructor Awards. As program developer and instructor for the GLA, WLA, and VA Medical Center, and under the auspices of the department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation from 2000 through 2013, he has established the first and only tai chi medical clinic within the Veterans Administration system.
As an instructor for the City of Los Angeles for more than 20 years, he has made these practices accessible to the community at large. In 2013, Asco was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame and presented with the Life Achievement Award for his contributions to these arts and service to the community.
