About this Event

On Thursdays, July 10 – August 14, 7-9pm, join members of Tactus SF for a six-week participatory workshop series on singing Renaissance music led by Tactus SF music director and vocologist Sven Edward Olbash.

The workshops will help individual singers develop skills to become better ensemble singers, by focusing on individual vocal technique, ear training and sight singing, and ensemble performance from Renaissance partbook notation. Singers will receive individual feedback on vocal technique that would otherwise not be possible in a group setting, to help singers identify potential growth areas and to provide structure for at-home practice. Material will include songs of the period and historical treatises used to train ensemble singers in Renaissance vocal technique and performance practice.

No audition is required for this intermediate level workshop, but previous choral experience is helpful. The workshop is organized by Tactus SF, a Bay Area chamber choir dedicated to bringing Renaissance polyphony to audiences in the San Francisco Bay Area and to online audiences everywhere.

Director: Sven is a specialist in music before 1600, having directed San Francisco Renaissance Voices, Euoue, and the Colloquium of the Gregorian Institute of Canada. He teaches Vocal Physiology and Voice Pedagogy at San Francisco Conservatory and individual singing lessons through Voice Science Studio.

When: Thursday evenings 7-9 pm, from July 10 to August 14.

Where: San Francisco, location TBA (Mission or Hayes Valley neighborhoods).

Fee: $100 to participate in the entire workshop (6 sessions) OR $75 for partial participation (up to 4 sessions). The sessions are progressive, so you are encouraged to attend as many as possible to get the most benefit. You will be asked to specify your voice part and which sessions you plan to attend at the end of the checkout process.
