About this Event

At Tablao la Alcachofa you'll experience flamenco in its truest form with performers drawing inspiration from the moment, showcasing the dynamic connection between musicians, dancers, and audience. Our September Tablao features flamenco singer Stephanie Pedraza (Vancouver, Canada) with dancers Lillie Last, Nela McGuire, and Shiho Travis, guitarist Brenna McDonald, and percussionist Nick Hutch.

About Stephanie: Internationally sought-after vocalist Stephanie Pedraza "La Memphi" is a unique combination of singer, songwriter, recording artist, producer/arranger, and flamenco artist (singer and dancer). Born in Toronto, Canada, she has toured, taught and collaborated across Canada, USA, Mexico, Spain, Colombia and Guatemala. As a flamenco artist, Stephanie is the recipient of two consecutive scholarships granted by The Vancouver Foundation which enabled her to move to Sevilla, Spain in 2004 and attend the world renown Fundacion Flamenco Cristina Heeren. Throughout the years she has had the privilege of studying with some of the most prominent figures in Flamenco (Joaquin Grilo, David Hornillo, Sonia Miranda, Isabel Bayon, Fuensanta "La Moneta", El Farru, Olga Pericet, Milagros Mengibar, Carmen Mesa).
Performance highlights include: Singing for flamenco master Belen Maya on three occasions, and backing up artists Ivan Vargas, Emilio Ochando, Flamencos por America Sebastian del Buen Ayre (Bogota, Colombia), participating in Festival de Artes Escenicas del Gran Caribe (Cartagena, Colombia) Expolatino (Calgary, AB) numerous shows throughout the years for the Vancouver, Victoria and Calgary International Flamenco Festivals and regular collaborations with Toronto based dancer Carmen Romero (Uno Dos y Tres as part of Dusk Dances, Dora Award winning "Jacinto" and Y Entonces).
