Systems at Play: An Integrated Play Therapy Approach to Working Therapeutically with Children

Come join us at The Living Centre in East Melbourne VIC, Australia for a two day interactive workshop focused on using the therapeutic powers of play and relationship, nervous system regulation and authenticity. Learn how to integrate basic play therapy principles and skills to culitivate safety and connection with children through play. Discover new, more effective and developmentally appropriate ways to engage with young clients and build strong therapeutic relationships.


This two-day experiential workshop invites you to learn basic play therapy principles and skills that is humanistic in nature and blends together developmental and attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness, parts-work, systemic, and presence based practices.

This workshop will also explore the interplay of systems that co-exist between practitioner/educator and child relationship with children from challenging, complex or trauma backgrounds.

This two-day workshop will include teachings, experiential exercises, role playing practice, discussion and personal reflection – offering skills that are immediately applicable that you can adapt in your different work settings.


Who is it for?

This training is for anyone in the helping and healing profession or interested in getting a taste of play therapy including psychotherapists, counsellors, social workers, maternal child health nurses, allied health practitioners, teachers, early years educators, medical staff, art therapists, students to established child and family centred professionals.

This training is suitable for both those working with children and those wishing to enhance their practice.

Monday 13 – Tuesday 14 May 2024: 9.30am – 5.00pm

Learning Objectives:

  • Be introduced to an overview of child centred play therapy theory and other non directive play therapy models of practice in a safe and supportive environment
  • Understand the therapeutic powers of play and attunement
  • Learn some of the therapeutic core skills to engage young children in play
  • Integrate mindful curiosity & awareness of system dynamics as an essential part of your work including transference & countertransference
  • Explain how the attunement and projective process works and how children use toys, play and the adult to understand themselves
  • Understand how our own window of tolerance supports integration of a child’s challenging feelings and perceptions
  • Learn effective self & co-regulation techniques for challenging moments
  • Understanding the importance of emotional age and the developmental stages when a child is exposed to significant stress or trauma
  • Explore the balance between following and leading, being and doing through play
  • Learn about the different play therapy trainings and providers for play therapy certification

Refund Policy

Contact the Organiser to request a refund. Full refund (minus a $100 cancellation fee) is available before 19th April 2024. Thereafter, no refund is available, however the credit can be applied to a future workshop offering. Please note, Eventbrite's fees is nonrefundable.


Certificate:

On completion of this workshop, participants will receive a certificate recognising the contact hours of this course.
