Syracuse Herbal SG Community Care Series: Cold\/Flu Remedies

We are excited to welcome you to a new project at Syracuse Herbal Study Group, the Community Care Series!

Four times a year, our monthly herbal study group class will be focused on a common, seasonally appropriate symptom or condition that often triggers a visit to a clinic, urgent care or ER and often ends with unnecessary medical bills. By learning how to address these issues at home with herbal allies, folks & families can decrease both their reliance on the medical system and their medical debt. Therefore, this series utilizes herbal medicine as a bridge between our dual missions: sharing education on plant medicine and building self-sustaining communities.

This month is our first offering in the Community Care Series, and our focus is on treating viral respiratory illnesses at home. Join us as we lay down foundational knowledge on pathophysiology, energetics, symptom recognition & assessment as well as recipes and herbal protocols.

Every class in the Community Care Series has two parts - foundational material and a medicine making skillshare. This month, we will be sharing how to make a Winter cough syrup! The products of our hands-on work at every class will go directly to the Samaritan Center in Syracuse, to be added to their pick-up options for interested families. This is a unique and wonderful opportunity to utilize workshop-style learning not only to benefit your own household, but to share these remedies with neighbors in our community.

Another new feature of study group will be rolled out this month - as we all prepare for the uncertain fate of SNAP benefits, Syracuse Herbal Study Group will be collecting nonperishable food items AND unopened herbal medicines. Please bring anything you are ready to part with to class! Nonperishable food items will go to our neighbors at the Onondaga Nation for their collection efforts - herbal medicines will go towards the creation of a free community apothecary.

If you bring two or more nonperishable food items OR an unopened, unused herbal medicine, get a free Syracuse Herbal Study Group sticker when you attend class! Can't make it to class but still want to donate? Email us at [email protected] to arrange!

As always, class is recorded and the livestream option through Zoom is available. EVERYONE GETS THE ZOOM LINK AND THE RECORDING, no need to specify how you will join class. The Zoom info can be found inside your ticket, which is attached to your confirmation email. Sliding scale ticketing and First Nations Scholarship options available!

Tickets below: see you there :)
