Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Overture from Marriage of Figaro
Dinuk Wijeratne: Clarinet Concerto
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 7
Stunning. Epic. Unforgettable. Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony is one of the most popular orchestral works of all time, and its influence marches on. Its sombre second movement anchored the climactic moment of the Oscar-winning film The King’s Speech. Symphony Nova Scotia performs this breathtaking magnum opus alongside Mozart’s delightful and rip-roaring Marriage of Figaro. Plus, Syrian-American clarinetist Kinan Azmeh returns to once again perform Dinuk Wijeratne’s Clarinet Concerto, which was inspired by his own immigrant story and in response to the Syrian conflict and commissioned especially for our orchestra.
“From the sparkling wit of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture to the rhythmic vitality of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, this program celebrates the sheer joy of music-making. At its heart is Dinuk Wijeratne’s mesmerizing Clarinet Concerto – a fusion of traditions and expressive freedom, and a powerful testament to music’s ability to transcend boundaries.” ~Shizuo Kuwahara, conductor
