A heady evening awaits, rich with storytelling, comedy and drama.
To open, Lutosławski's Little Suite, with its driving energy inspired by Polish folk songs, and we close the concert with a virtuosic violin taking the narrator’s role in Rimsky-Korsakov's series of hedonistic musical adventures, Scheherazade.
A characterful duo is required to give life to all the humour of Shostakovich’s Concerto No. 1 for Piano, Trumpet and Strings – the one and only Barry Douglas is joined by trumpet player Niall Keatley for the performance.
