After the wild success of Live & Local in 2023, Sydney Writers’ Festival returns to The Empire in 2024 to bring the best of the Festival direct to you.One of Australia’s most loved forums for literature, ideas and storytelling, Sydney Writers’ Festival will live-stream its headline events from Sydney to Toowoomba on Thursday 23, Friday 24, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May.
Prepare to be invigorated and engaged by conversations, debates and discussions featuring some of the world’s finest writers and thinkers. Audiences can also participate in live Q&A sessions at each event, sending questions straight to the Sydney stage.
In 2024, The Empire will once again partner with The Lighthouse Toowoomba to present local conversations in between the Sydney Writers Festival program – in person!
Thursday 23 May

Author Sarah Todman in conversation with her mother, author Frances Harding, whose narrative non-fiction work The Accidental Australians explores the family saga of penniless Greek migrants Harry and Jimmy Corones and the hotel empire they built in Western Queensland.

Considering a faith-based life from a writers perspective with Adele Jones, Nola Passmore, and Jessica Kate. What are the 'do's and don'ts' and quite simply, the 'non-negotiables' in this context. Dive deeper into the pages with this panel in-conversation.

Tara Louise East digs deep with award-winning author of 'Buried Times Buried' Jane Smith as they discuss the vagaries of methodical research combined with the rich stories of the past.
