The music of the Steve Balbi, perhaps better known as the founding member and producer of Noiseworks and Electric Hippies, mines a kaleidoscope of life at the margins. Coalescing melody, sophistication, and soul, Balbi bespeaks Bowie and Lennon, exploring the diversity, refinement, and gritty groove of Radiohead.
Balbi’s studio credits include Andrew Farris (INXS), Christine Anu, Glenn Shorrock, Jenny Morris, and Dylan Frost, among others, which elucidates his artistry and multeity; also creating vocal arrangements for David Bowie’s Hours, with producer Marius de Vries (Madonna, Björk), and for the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge.
Renowned for his captivating live performances, Steve Balbi returns to the House to celebrate the launch of his fourth studio album – Breakdown. Beautiful but distorted, daunting but heavenly, Balbi bends every genre with this new masterpiece and show.
Our very special guest is the founding member of Leonardo’s Bride and le magnifique Baby et Lulu, Abby Dobson, who will open the evening with an acoustic and inherently intimate show, her soulful voice soliciting songs ‘n’ stories from the streets of Athens, Paris, and New York City with love.
Balbi’s debut solo LP Black Rainbow (2013) and its surreal reprise Rainbow Black (2016) provided a musical departure, before I Think I Know For Sure (2022) posited us back to the present. Breakdown (2024) is an impossibly romantic journey, evocative and enlightening yet melancholic and intoxicating.
