Join Professor Norman Cherry and Dauvit Alexander, joint curators of the touring exhibition , for their talk and Q&A with Professor Ross Birrell, GSA Professor in Contemporary Art Practice & Critical Theory. The exhibition preview will follow later that evening in the Reid Gallery upstairs.
Together Cherry, Alexander and Birrell will discuss the nationwide problem of knife crime and accompanying exhibition that features thirty-four international jewellery and metals artists. These artists have created innovative and exciting new bodies of work by refashioning, adapting or otherwise transforming knives which have been surrendered to UK police, mainly through the West Midlands Police knife surrender scheme.
The exhibition is hosted GSA School of Design, and includes works by Head of Silversmithing and Jewellery Anna Gordon and Head of the School of Design Professor Stephen Bottomley.
The exhibition features work by Dauvit Alexander, Boris Bally, Petra Bishai, Stephen Bottomley, Tim Carson, Norman Cherry, Jens Clausen, Rachael Colley, Eimear Conyard, Bob Coogan, Rosie Deegan, Jeff Durber, Cristina Filipe, Anna Gordon, Hermann Hermson, Jorge Manilla, Patrick McMillan, Nanna Mellund, Eliana Negroni, Rohan Nicol, Ted Noten, Coilin O’Dubhail, Komelia Okim, Peter Parkinson, Annelisse Pfeifer, Jo Pond, Elizabeth Shaw, Rebecca Skeels, Risto Tali, and Fred Truus.
