Sword Dance Workshops – A 3-Part Bellydance Series

Join us for a dynamic series of three bellydance workshops, each 2 hours long, designed to help you master the art of dancing with a sword. Each session focuses on a unique theme, featuring specific techniques and movements that build progressively into a complete choreography.
While attending all three workshops is recommended for the full experience, each session can also be taken as a standalone. Please note: the final 30 minutes of every class will be dedicated to developing and practicing the choreography, which will evolve across the series. ALL levels welcome.
BYO bellydance sword is essential.
Workshop 1: Make Friends with Your Sword
Saturday 1st November | 2:00 – 4:00 PM
Start your sword journey by building a strong connection with your prop. Rather than simply dancing while holding a sword, you’ll learn how to move with your sword — letting it become an extension of your body. We’ll explore framing techniques, fluid transitions, and foundational movement pathways to help you dance in harmony with your sword.
Workshop 2: Balance Your Sword
Saturday 8th November | 2:00 – 4:00 PM
Take your skills to the next level as we dive into the art of sword balancing. Discover how to balance your sword in various ways and learn which movements pair best with balancing — enhancing the visual impact without sacrificing flow or ease. We'll cover both dynamic and subtle movements to elevate your performance.
Workshop 3: Floorwork & Creating Tableaux
Saturday 15th November | 2:00 – 4:00 PM
In this final workshop, we’ll explore the beauty of floorwork and how to create striking stage pictures (tableaux). You’ll learn safe, accessible techniques for getting down to and rising from the floor. Not keen on floorwork? No problem! You'll also explore ways to create visually compelling group formations by playing with levels and spatial design. Together, we’ll craft layered movements that complement each other, resulting in powerful, cohesive stage moments.
