Welcome to Swing Surgeries!
These sessions look to give you the time and space to improve your technique and expand your knowledge of Lindy Hop, Charleston and Solo Jazz
Each surgery focuses on an individual topic and provides an engaging environment to develop your Swing vocabulary and invest in your dancing!
Sunday 31 Jan: John Bubbles Inspired Charleston
Often referred to as the “father of rhythm tap”, Bubbles and his partner “Buck” Washington were the first black performers to play Radio City Music Hall in New York City. They were also featured on the BBC’s first ever broadcast in 1936, making them the first black people ever on television.
Over the session, we’ll be drawing inspiration from Bubbles’ dynamic, rhythmic accents and breaking down his style of Jump Charleston as we explore ways to draw inspiration from this jazz hero in our Solo Jazz repertoire.
This session will be run by Jessie from The Swing Project via our virtual Zoom classroom. The class is open level however familiarity with basic Charleston is recommended.
