Swindon Mindful Employer Network - July 2024

We’re welcoming mindful employers from across Swindon and the local area to join us for crucial discussions surrounding mental health and employee wellbeing in the workplace. Helping you to foster an understanding, supportive and productive workplace for you and your employees.

During our Swindon Mindful Employer Network series, which is in partnership with Swindon & Gloucestershire Mind and Swindon Borough Council, we’ll discuss different challenges and issues that employers might be faced with.

For this in-person event, we will be joined by expert speakers to discuss Fostering a Safe Environment for Employees in the Workplace. Our speakers will cover how to make employees feel safe and be taken seriously in the workplace and ways that employers can provide support and be sensitive to those facing problems in their personal lives. Also covered will be advice on how to give employees the opportunity to take time for their mental and physical health. Additionally, July is Alcohol Awareness month and Samaritans Awareness Day is on 24 July.

At the end of the event, and depending on the weather, there will be an opportunity to join us for a walk around the grounds of Lydiard Park.

• Julie Ilic, Volunteer Employment liaison officer for Alcoholics Anonymous in this region.

Julie's aim is to make AA and the help it offers for those that may have a drink problem more transparent. Providing employers firsthand information and guidance on how and where to go to get help if they feel someone has a problem within their workplace.

• Sian Orton, Quality and Partnership Lead at Change Grow Live

Sian is Quality and Partnership Lead Brief intervention coordinator & Trainer for Change Grow Live (CGL) and will present around Alcohol units, early intervention and how to support staff.

• Faye Turner, IPS Senior Employment Specialist at Change Grow Live

Faye is employed by Change Grow Live (CGL) as a Senior Employment Specialist. Faye is attending to share information about the new IPS (Individual Placement and Support) which has recently launched at CGL. IPS is an evidence-based employment support service supporting people who are engaged in structured treatment at CGL to find employment. Faye will share information about what IPS is, how it works in practice and how mindful employers can work in partnership with the new service.

• Lisa Wozniak, Interim Co-Director at Swindon & District Samaritans

Samaritans provide emotional support to individuals struggling with mental health issues, loneliness, and suicidal thoughts. They ensure that every person who reaches out for help receives the understanding, respect, and support they deserve. Swindon Samaritans actively collaborates with local Schools, Workplaces, Military Organisations and Community Groups to raise awareness of the service we can offer for those in need.

Swindon & Gloucestershire Mind offers mental health support through counselling, therapy, and community programs. They provide information, and workshops, fostering well-being and aiding recovery. Their services focus on promoting mental wellness and aiding individuals in their journey toward improved mental health and resilience.
