About this Event
The Montgomery family founded The Gregory H. Montgomery Jr. Foundation after losing Greg to suicide in 2020. Their Spartan legacy began with Greg Sr., a member of Michigan State University’s 1957 National Championship team, and continued with both Greg Jr. and Steve, who both played on Coach George Perles’s 1988 Rose Bowl Championship team. Greg was a 2x All-American and selected 3x as All-Big Ten at MSU and went on to earn All-Pro honors in the NFL, while Steve served as one of the team captains for the Michigan State Spartans during the 1989 season. With deep ties to Michigan State, the family established a fund in Greg’s name to provide mental health resources for student-athletes.
This September, during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the Montgomery family will return to East Lansing to host a series of events honoring Greg’s life and promoting mental health awareness:
Thursday, September 4 - annual Flex and Flow event at Dem Hall Field at 6:00 PM, an evening of community connection, mindful movement, and wellness tips.
Friday, September 5 - ribbon cutting of The Gregory H. Montgomery Jr. Warrior Room at Winans Elementary School in Lansing.
Saturday, September 6 - Michigan State football players will wear the foundation’s logo during the BC game to raise awareness for suicide prevention.
Saturday, September 13 - Margot Montgomery Moran, SWFL Spartan member, will be inducted as an honorary member of the Spartan Varsity Club.
