SWELL MAPS C21 will play at The Piper on Saturday, May 31st. Tickets will be on sale to the Piper's mailing list at 10 am on Thursday, May 13th, and on general sale at 10 am on Friday, May 14th.
💥Formed in 1972, DIY punk-psych pioneers Swell Maps released their first single in 1977, immediately put on repeat play by John Peel. In the subsequent three years, they fired out four wonky, buzzy singles and two albums on Rough Trade before splitting.
⚡Although short, their idiosyncratic noise inspired the likes of Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Pavement, Stereolab, Pastels and Blur.
❤ Founder members Epic and Nikki, who were brothers, died in 1997 and 2006, but, after a performance in 2021 to perform Swell Maps music, Jowe Head from the band formed Swell Maps C21, who continue to celebrate the music of the original band while beating a new path, often with guest musicians and singers.
