About this Event
“Sweet Soil: Honoring Black Ties to Land, Community, and Rest” is Pasadena Black Equity Project’s local fundraiser to help Black Pasadena residents in need. Our guiding theme is: How do we honor our community’s roots and historical ties to the land? How do we honor ourselves with rest, community, and connection?
We will have a lineup of local Black performing artists, poets, and community organizations leading wellness workshop sessions. We will also have various activity booths including a book sale, an art auction, a community photo booth and display, a community altar, and a legacy booth that honors our local Black community’s ties to land—to name a few.
**Please bring a yoga mat or blanket to the movement sessions. We also encourage and invite attendees to bring materials you wish to put on the altar (e.g, photos, fruit, sweets, candles, water, drinks, flowers, art, etc.) along with printed copies (not originals!) of Black family photos you would like to include in our community photo display.
All proceeds from the above will go to the to help Black Pasadena residents in need pay for essentials related to health, education, living, and community.
We will also have local Black vendors selling food and drinks on site.
**Covid Guidelines: Masks are suggested. Please stay home if you are feeling ill, we will refund your ticket.
A limited amount of tickets will be sold at the door.
**Free parking will be available at the Westridge School parking lot located at State St. and Orange Grove Blvd. The event will take place in the garden’s Olive Allée. Please find a map and parking instructions .

ABOUT PASADENA BLACK EQUITY PROJECT
The Pasadena Black Equity Project is a grassroots organization that hosts a mutual aid fund that aims to help Black residents and families of the greater Pasadena area pay for essentials amidst the pressures of a global pandemic, unemployment, housing insecurity, and racial injustice. As a local mutual aid fund network, our movement serves as a way for residents to help residents during this crisis by redistributing wealth and resources from those who are most comfortable to those who need them most. Our goal is to help one another and uplift those most impacted by both structural and personal hardships while creating an ongoing community of care and service.
