Welcome to our Flax Sweater Class! The flax is the most popular sweater on ravelry for several years now and it’s fantastic for a first sweater because there are tons of references and even an app to keep you on track.

This is a 6 week class, where you be walked through creating a sweater from start to finish.

There is an expectation that students will continue to work on their pieces between classes, as they're not likely to finish them all while in class. We’ll cover getting you started on each section and get you the confidence to work on your sweater at home.

This is a 5 part class taking place over 6 weeks. Dates will be on Mondays, from 5pm - 7 pm

• 2/3/25 - Class 1 - We’ll be casting on your sweater yoke! You should come to class with your gauge swatch completed and be ready to cast on.
• 2/10/25 - Class 2 - Setting up your yoke - The yoke is the first really important step in sizing your sweater and getting your pattern set up. It is one of the two places where you/’’ be shaping your sweater. We will be skipping the optional short rows. We’ll go over stitch marker placement, raglan increases and general yokey goodness.*You will have 2 weeks between class 2 and 3 so that you have time to finish your yoke*
• 2/24/25 - Class 3 - It’s time to separate your sleeves and start the body! This is where your sweater strings will come into play.
• 3/3/25 - Class 4 - Sleeve Island! For this class, we’re taking a sleeve off our sweater strings, picking up a few stitches and getting started on making sleeves. This is the 2nd area of shaping on our sweater.
• 3/10/25 - Class 5 - Ta da! You made it through! For our last class, we’ll work on things as needed. We will discuss bind off methods and any other questions you may have. Then we’ll work on knitting various parts of our sweaters.

Materials Needed:

• Worsted Weight Yarn in the yardage that corresponds to your sweater size (the pattern is linked below)
• Knitting Needles in sizes : US #6 / 4mm & US #8 / 5mm (or as required to meet gauge)

0-6 mo - 4 yrs: 16” circulars and DPNs in each size* 4 yrs - XS: 16” circulars, 24” circulars, and DPNs in each size* S - XXL: 16” circulars, 32” circulars, and DPNs in each size* 3XL - 6XL: 16” circulars, 48” circulars, and DPNs in each size* *Alternatively you can use the magic loop technique to knit in the round using a single long circular needle.

• Scissors
• Tape Measure
• Darning Needle
• Set of 5 stitch markers
• Sweater strings
• a row counter will be helpful, but not required

We will require a minimum of 2 students for class to move forward and will have a maximum of 4 spots available.
