About this Event
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is associated with emotional distress, impaired functioning, addiction, and self-injurious behaviors. Transference-focused psychotherapy (TFP) is an empirically supported individualized psychotherapy for patients with borderline personality disorder. TFP has been shown to reduce symptoms of BPD, suicidal behavior, and hospitalizations, and to improve social and personality functioning.
The goal of this summit is to convene psychotherapists to engage with and learn from international experts in TFP for BPD and other personality disorders.
Topics to be addressed include:
- Communication styles of patients with BPD
- Theory, treatment principles, and evidence base for TFP
- Blending TFP with general psychiatric management, dialectical behavior therapy, and mentalization based therapy
- Case presentations and group discussions
The Saturday Summit includes catered breakfast and lunch, opportunities for networking, and time to connect with old and new friends. In the spirit of educating future psychotherapists, trainees and early career mental health practitioners will be invited for on-site mentoring and networking.
This event is co-produced by the Southwest Psychoanalytic Society and the University of Arizona COM-T Department of Psychiatry.
Be sure to also join us for the gratis keynote address on Friday, Oct. 4 with Dr Doering: "How do people with borderline personality disorder communicate? Implicit communication in the therapeutic relationship."
