I first started selling paintings in college to make extra money around the holidays. Before then I would paint things for school, in my room, gifts for other people, etc. I was a high school teacher and coach for several years but always painted on the side in my free time. I would sell things here and there on facebook and instagram. I left teaching and started Raleigh Art Solutions. This is a business that helps hang art, with installations, gallery walls, selecting art, and framins selections. I continued painting on the side, mostly large abstracts and dog watercolors. I started painting murals a few years ago and that is what I primarily do now. Last year I painted 23 murals and this year I have completed 17 so far. Additionally, I will do some First Fridays in downtown Raleigh or pop ups here and there.
A lot of artists have inspired me. Probably every artist I meet or see online inspires me in a way. Painting and creating, and just putting your work out there takes a bit of bravery. I love seeing what artists come up with, their different styles, color palettes, and what visuals they bring to the world. I really loved my art professors in college. I really feel like they pushed me to go with my gut and taught me that making art for the masses has less emotion in it because you're trying to mold to what others want. I started really pushing color relationships, using various mediums- liquid gold, frame installations, spray paint, watercolor, pen and ink, acrylic, oil pastels.
I am so thankful I get to do what I love, and that I get to bring color into homes, offices, on the sides of buildings, etc.
