About this Event
Suturing the Border: Re-Membering BAW/TAF opening night
Suturing the Border: Re-Membering BAW/TAF highlights four core initiatives of the Border Art Workshop/Taller de Arte Fronterizo, a groundbreaking project that incubated definitive Chicano artists and signaled the borderlands as a critical site for creative work.
This exhibit features works by members of the original BAW/TAF (recognizing that membership continued to grow and change throughout peak activity in the late 1980s – early 1990s and afterwards) and invited contributors.
Suturing the Border: Re-Membering BAW/TAF is the first exhibit of a two-year project honoring and building upon the 54-year legacy of El Centro Cultural de la Raza in engaging the borderlands through the arts and cultural exchange across the US/México borderlands.
