About this Event
Comedy fan? Enjoy watching, and chatting about, films? Welcome to the Sutton Coldfield Comedy Film Club, it’s like a “book club” but for comedy films.
To keep it easy and inclusive, we’ll start with films available free on BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 , or ITVx and we’ll always give plenty of notice of the next film to watch.
We will aim for some lesser known films, and the odd blast from the past. They won’t all be masterpieces, or full on comedy, but variety is the spice of life. Even the misfires and oddballs will give us plenty to talk about, as we watch with a critical eye, and become more discerning comedy film viewers.
How it Works
- Join the club: Book a free ticket on this page so we can manage numbers.
- We notify you: We will send out the film title and details ASAP after you book.
- You watch: Watch in your own time, then jot a few notes, what you liked, what didn’t land for you, and thoughts on the main characters and anything else you spotted.
- We meet: Fortnightly, to share thoughts, and to discuss and debate the funny bits.
- Where: Upstairs function room at The Station pub, Sutton Coldfield, every second Monday, 8:00–9:30 pm. We’ll have the room from 7:30 pm, so feel free to arrive early, grab a drink, and come up to say hi.
Why Join? It’s a fun way to explore films you might otherwise miss, while gaining a new perspective on the mechanics of comedy. It is also free, and a chance to get out of the house and to meet likeminded people!
What to Bring:
- Any notes or observations you made while watching.
- A willingness to listen, and to share your own ideas, in a friendly, supportive environment.
Whether you’re a film buff, a comedy fan, or just after a fun local night out, come along and join the conversation.
Hosted by Jim Judges, comedy fan and part-time PhD researcher exploring character comedy.
