This four-week course is for anyone new to gardening in southern Utah. We'll explore how to create a healthy, sustainable ecosystem in your garden using regenerative gardening principles. The course emphasizes incorporating native plants and supporting vital pollinators.We'll cover essential topics like understanding your climate zone, improving soil health, identifying and utilizing microclimates, and efficient water use. You'll learn how to select the right plants for your space, focusing on native species, and how different plant types (perennials, biennials, annuals, deciduous, evergreen) contribute to your garden's structure. We'll also delve into the importance of pollinators and beneficial animals, and how to attract them.
A key component of the course is making a plan for your outdoor space. We'll discuss designing around problem areas, creating different zones (such as entertaining, vegetable, flower, or play areas), and ensuring accessibility. Finally, we'll cover how to care for your garden in a way that promotes its health without harming the ecosystem, how to reduce maintenance, and common gardening issues, so you can spend more time enjoying your outdoor space.
