Please join us Wednesday, November 19th from 5:00pm-6:30pm at Curtis Library in the Morrell Meeting Room as we welcome Dr. John Lichter, Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies (Emeritus) at Bowdoin College, for a free, thought-provoking lecture exploring how biodiversity underpins the health and stability of ecosystems — and what that means for our collective future.
Tracing foundational science, Dr. Lichter will demonstrate how species diversity enhances ecosystem function and resilience, beginning with landmark studies in prairie plant communities and extending to Maine’s forests, streams, estuaries, and coastal environments; examine how the concept of ecosystem resilience has evolved into socioecological resilience, offering insights into how human and natural systems can thrive together amid ongoing environmental changes. Drawing from his experience as a board member of BTLT, Dr. Lichter will highlight the critical role of local conservation organizations in safeguarding functioning ecosystems for future generations.
This event is co-sponsored by the Town of Brunswick, Curtis Memorial Library, and the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust.
