Our tutor, Gayle Stone, will show you how to create art projects using everyday supplies.
About this Event

This workshop is designed to be easy and lots of fun:

· a gentle pathway to beginning your very own art making

· a relaxing way to boost/maintain your creativity

· a doorway out of an art block

What do you mean by, "Sustainable Art?"

Also known as green art and eco-art, this practice is simply a creative way to make art. Artists try as much as possible to use things that are:

· Not needed any more

· On the 'last sale day'

· Old or worn out

· Found or given to you

Why do artists use this method? And would this suit me?

Artists often test themselves to work in different ways (like only using sustainable supplies) in order to spike their creativity. Our brains are designed to come up with ideas IF CHALLENGED. So this practice is almost like a stepping stone to creating art, or creating new art. This works for all people making and creating. You can find more information here: Article on seeing like an artist

Here's my art

As much as possible, I use sustainable practices to create all sorts of arty things. I like to do my bit for the planet, but I also like to see what I can do with what I have around me. It's a valuable part of my creative process.

We will discover how to:

  1. Repurpose an old novel to create a handmade, artists' sketchbook
  2. Create personal marks and text on collage papers
  3. Complete your very own, unique abstract journal spread, ready to photograph and frame

Supplies

In keeping with the sustainability practice, we will be bringing only 'student or kids' quality supplies, and then using our imagination to gather found items to make our journal spread experiments. Gayle Stone will also have a few items.

Please be aware, we will most likely be SHARING items/supplies. So don't bring anything too precious or expensive.

See what you already have around the house, and then shop for any further items here:

Officeworks etc, $2 shops, Op Shops, Large general stores

Items

Old HARD COVER book (Around A4 size is ideal)

Kids 'cardboard' books are my current favourite

Acrylic paints and brushes:

Aqua/Teal, Pink, Yellow

Black & White

1-2 brushes (nothing fancy!)

Baking paper

1 roll is more than enough!

pens/pencils/crayons

BLACK & WHITE, plus

any colours you can scrounge

Cleaning:

cCloth/paper

Hand sanitiser

APRON!

Chux rag or paper towels

Hand sanitiser is great for a quick clean up of you and your art table

Grab an old apron or wear really OLD clothes. This can be messy work

Glue:

A large glue stick. My favourite brand is UHU, but again, use what you have rather than buying things if you can

Printer paper A4

If you have any, bring along plain white paper or an old writing pad or lecture paper, only 2-3 pages
