With the new year upon us, it is time for the Surreal Sirkus to return to our roots: indeed to the roots of surrealism itself. While the spectacle and theatrics of the big productions is how we draw the audience into our world, it is in the small interactions between ourselves that that world is created: the brainstorming sessions, the potluck... the salon.
This was true for the OG surrealists, who would gather at the apartment of André and Simone Breton in Paris in the 1920s to discuss art, philosophy, and politics, share creative ideas, and play surrealist games — exercises in creating art by accessing the unconscious mind.
Surreal Sirkus invites you to come take part in a similar salon, as we start to dream the next chapters of our collective story.
If you feel so called, bring a song or a story or a poem or performance to share. At the very least be prepared to participate in some games. And of course, bring your imagination!
And bring a beverage or snack to share.
Donations are not required, but are welcome to help support the space.
