SURREAL ELECTRONICA 2021
Bae Electronica and Surreal Sounds present the 7th edition of Surreal Electronica.
Over a year has passed since we last tore up the dance floor to enchanting African electronic sounds and shared our love of dance music. On Friday, the 10th of December, we return to Kitchener's Carvery Bar to light it up. Bringing us together for a moment in indelible time will be a dynamic line-up of old friends, brand-new residents, and fans' favourite performers.
In this edition we are thrilled to welcome UK Afro-House luminaries Kitty Amor and Sef Kombo playing B2B, the amapiano selekta Charisse (UK), our new residents Si Jones and Greg Soleri, and house music aficionado Raphasosyk.

KITTY AMOR (UK)

DJ and Producer, Kitty Amor has been working tirelessly for over ten years to earn her name within the underground House music scene. Specialising in Deep and African Electronic House music she has rapidly become the DJ she aspired to be all those years ago. Her musical style differs from many others with her manipulative selections and undeniable skill that leaves great impact on dance floors. With the way she connects with people through sound, Kitty was always destined to be a music supplier.

Heading up her residency club nights Motherland and Sessions alongside Sef Kombo.
Through her ability to create an immersive experience with sound and visuals, she has established these brands in London as one of the UK’s main domains for African electronic music. Mixmag recognised the event for its “inspiring representation of the diversity of the city’s black community... with its jubilant and celebratory atmosphere."

SI JONES
Born in Mthatha Eastern Cape, South Africa, Si Jones’s career began in 2012, at Rhodes University. Her undeniable passion for entertainment along with her eclectic and vibrant personality led her into joining Rhodes Music radio (RMR), where she learnt the skills of being a DJ and On-Air radio presenting. Si Jones has been featured on various commercial radio stations such as, metro fm, Ligwalagwala Fm, Tru fm, 947, Cliff central, Massive metro and many more. She has shared stages across South Africa, with the likes of Black Motion, Heavy K, Oskido and Shimza to name the least.
RAPHASOSYK
Raphasosyk, hailing from Zimbabwe with roots in Malawi, brings his own signature style to the world of house music. His deep afro futuristic bouncy rhythms are sure to get you in the mood for dancing, as intended. That is the way of his tribe, the Tumbuka of Northern Malawi.
Having toured Kenya in 2017, featured on both on radio broadcasters, MetroFM and 5FM as well as performed alongside renowned artists such as Atjazz, Jimpster, Floyd Lavine, Hyenah and Culoe De Song, Raphasosyk is no stranger to the world stage. Raphasosyk has recently performed at CTEMF 2018 and WeHouseSundays in Cape Town and is a regular fixture at The Friday Sundowner in Johannesburg.
SEF KOMBO (UK)
DJ and Producer, Sef Kombo has always been a man of genuine passion, a passion to let the globe know what the African House sounds mean to him. Over the last 13 years he has been so immersed in the scene, the rhythm, the culture and the deeper roots behind the music, using the dancefloor to take you on a journey and experience the true beauty of the sound.
Growing up in Brixton, Sef’s musical tastes were a blend of the area’s Caribbean roots, his mother’s love for ballads from the likes of Celine Dion, Anita Baker and Mariah Carey to the smooth sounds of Kenny G, ultimately giving him a love and respect for soul and meaningful lyrics. His first experience of DJ’ing began experimenting on his friend’s decks, he then picked up the hobby years later at university where he would play selector at house parties and share slow jam mixes on the infamous Noughties platform, Myspace.
Since then, Sef’s presence within the scene has only grown, with festival appearances at Sundown and Strawberries & Creem, a much-loved energising set for Boiler Room and Mixmag cover alongside friend and fellow Afro-house trailblazer Kitty Amor. From holding residencies for BBC Radio 1xtra, playing alongside the likes of Black Coffee, Themba and Diplo to having a presence on international stages at Defected Croatia and Rokslide Festival – a contrast to his previous nine-to-five life working for TFL.
GREG SOLERI
DJ, electronic music enthusiast and passionate copyright activist, Greg Soleri is a House Music purist. When he is not involved in the music industry through his work at SAMRO, he spins soulful, electronic and old school jams at multiple clubs around Johannesburg.
CHARISSE C (UK)
DJ, founder and host of Abantu on No Signal radio, Charisse C draws her selections from her diaspora experience. Her taste is curious, soulful and bass-heavy, with a playful and intentional demeanour. You’ll hear her play South Africa’s soundscape, including global giants Amapiano and Gqom, alongside the many electronic genres birthed by the melting pot which raised her.
The multifaceted tastemaker has played a wide span of shows from renowned club nights, to the London Design Biennale at Somerset House, Daily Paper’s London Launch and renowned venues such as Fabric, Village Underground and The Colour Factory. Charisse C’s mixes can be found on Boiler Room, NTS and No Signal Radio.
