Join us for the first evening of the Superior Dark Sky Experience, a celebration of the beauty and importance of our night skies. This family-friendly event features engaging talks, cultural storytelling, and hands-on activities for all ages.
Schedule of Events:
3:30 pm – Introduction to Dark Skies
Todd Burlet of Starry Skies North will share why protecting dark skies matters—for wildlife, for human health, and for our sense of wonder.
4:30 pm – Creatures of the Night: Moths
Naturalist Kurt Mead reveals the fascinating world of moths, their vital role in ecosystems, and how light pollution affects them.
5:00 pm – Ojibwe Star Culture (Live Zoom Presentation)
Renowned artist and storyteller Carl Gawboy explores Ojibwe star knowledge and cultural connections to the night sky, followed by a live Q & A session.
All Day Activities:
✨ Kids can explore STEM and craft stations inside the library.
✨ Enjoy a self-guided Story Walk outside the library grounds.
Come for one program or stay for them all—this opening night sets the stage for a weekend filled with discovery, culture, and the wonders of the cosmos.
