About this Event
Super Tuscan is a phrase adopted by winemakers in Chianti, and the surrounding wine making regions, to describe the wines they made that fell outside of the DOC laws but were considered superior to the recognized wines of the region. Prior to 1992, these “special” wines could only be termed Vino di Tavola, or Table Wine, which was a substandard moniker for the precious liquid in these bottles. With the advent of the classification Indicazione Geografica Tipica, or IGT, new regions were born that paid homage to these magnificent creations. At this event we will learn about the IGT, specific to the wines made in and around Tuscany. We will taste several of these Super Tuscan wines and fully appreciate the meaning of quality while “coloring outside the lines” of proscriptive wine laws.
