Superheroes are often cast as the picture of muscle-bound beefcakes and lithe vixens in pop culture. And yet, in those perceived extremes, many artists find these characters to be perfect platforms for broader, more nuanced conversations about gender performance. Join Alejo Benedetti, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and originating curator of Men of Steel, Women of Wonder (which traveled to SAMA in 2019) as he discusses how artists engage this enduring comic topic on the art world stage.This program will be held in-person and streamed via zoom at 6 p.m.
