We can’t wait to bring you Chew’s Yard’s first indie disco hosted by stalwarts of the DJ scene in Preston, Karl Yates and Dave Chambers. Join us on Friday 21st February, from 8pm, for a night of your favourite indie tracks. Expect lots of things you know and hopefully lots you don't, but might just love.
If you were a fan of Clint Boon’s night at Chew’s Yard, you are going to LOVE Super Electric Indie Disco, plus it’s FREE entry.
Here’s the lowdown on your hosts…
Karl Yates
For over 35 years, Karl has DJ’d at virtually every Preston Indie club night including residencies at The Adelphi, Roper Hall, Promo at the Student Union/53 Degrees, The Mill & The Warehouse. He has also been a resident DJ at Kendal Calling Festival for 19 years where he closes the festival every year.
All this has seen him DJ with Dave Haslam, Mr Scruff, Luke Una, Clint Boon, Mani (Primal Scream/Stone Roses), Shaun Ryder & Bez plus an uncountable list of bands such as The Coral, Jamie T, We Are Scientists, Sunshine Underground and played album launch parties for Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers to name just a few.
Karl’s sets take in Indie, Funk, Northern Soul, Hip Hop plus edits and reworks all aimed firmly at the dance floor and mixed by loving hands.
Dave Chambers
Bitten by the music bug aged 11, punk rock (& it's wider scoped outer edges) was Dave’s first love, much of which still stays with him.
The 80s were spent devouring music current and past, dinner money unspent on eating to satisfy the more vital hunger of new records at the weekend. By the end of the decade, having written fanzines to spread the word on bands new and old, playing records to friends at home and making compilation tapes for people turned into playing records to strangers in actual clubs.
Preston ones ranging from Raiders/The Warehouse before the 90s kicked in, to the Ferret and now Chews Yard (via The Gatsby, University, Byrons/Barristers, Adelphi, Roper Hall, Corner Club, The Mill and possibly a few others he’s forgotten).mPlaces further afield include Manchester's legendary Boardwalk, Dry Bar and Night & Day. Derby, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Hastings & Brighton.
Much of that time went hand in hand with playing in bands for last 35 years. Including Cornershop, Formula One, Wandering Step, Baboon, Common Cold and currently UHR. Somehow, he also managed to fit in 8 years working at Action Records.
Music is a lifelong passion that shows no signs of wavering.
Dave doesn’t usually plan dj sets too much, an anything goes policy tends to keep things interesting (and nerve wracking on occasion). It's still a buzz to get someone come over and ask what the song is that's playing, and that's something that has happened most nights over the last 35 years.
